Bookkeeper | Cape Town | Premium Dining
As an established, fast-expanding Johannesburg hospitality group prepares to launch its flagship seafront restaurant in Mouille Point, we are seeking a methodical, detail-driven BOOKKEEPER to manage the financial operations of the venue.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, reconciliations, supplier accounts, and inventory reporting, ensuring tight financial controls during our September setup and ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable & Creditors:
- Process daily supplier invoices, delivery notes, and credit notes.
- Reconcile monthly creditor statements and prepare payment batches for approval.
- Work closely with the Head Chef and Bar Manager to verify stock receiving and invoice pricing against agreed supplier quotes.
- Cash & Revenue Reconciliation:
- Reconcile daily sales reports from the POS system against card terminals, cash drops, and delivery platforms.
- Manage daily petty cash tracking and floor float allocations.
- Inventory & Costing:
- Assist in weekly and monthly stock take input and variance reporting.
- Track wastage, breakages, and prime costs (food and beverage costs).
- General Ledger & Reporting:
- Maintain precise general ledger entries and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare initial documentation and trial balances for monthly management accounts.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience. Prior experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry is a distinct advantage.
- Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Xero, Pastel) and restaurant POS/Inventory systems (e.g., GAAP, Pilot, Micros, or similar).
- Skills: Excellent Excel skills, high numerical accuracy, and strong attention to detail.
- Attributes: Structured, reliable, and capable of working effectively with both floor management and off-site corporate financial teams.
Salary package: Market related
